And how! Just went I thought this series couldn't get any better, they throw in a dogfight! That's not something I was expecting in a fantasy series.

It was also nice that the series picked up exactly where it left off three months ago, making it a rather unusual second season, but then again, with the way the first season left off I wouldn't have been happy if they had used the first episode of this season as s recap.  As for the episode itself it was a brilliant as ever, with ufotable continuing to maintain the high standards in quality of animation, and dialog that this show has become famous for.

And we got some insight into Tokiomi in this episode, and I suppose that while he is entirely devoted to being a mage and a member of the Tohosaka family and to finding the root, he does actually love his children. Of course giving Sakura to Zouken was not the best decision he could have made, because I'm quite sure he that he does at least have some idea of what the Matou magic is, but lets just say considering his beliefs, I can't say that his decision was not one of love, because he sees it as giving her a better future. Of course all this makes him the perfect enemy for Kariya, who views are completely opposite to those of Tokiomi, not to mention the fact that he's been witnessing first hand the effects of Tokiomi's decision to send Sakura away. And if you consider how much Gilgamesh seems to like fighting Berserker the stage is set for an all out battle between these two, and I really want wait to see it.

But what I really liked about this episode was how they managed to slip humor into an entirely serious battle sequence, the part where one of the pilots comments to the other that if there was really a monster and if this was a monster movie, they were definitely going to die, as they would only be there to get killed before the hero showed up, had been in stitches. But what's really amazing is that it didn't entirely happen that way! While one guy got killed off, the other was used by Berserker in his dogfight with Gilgamesh, and I don't think anyone saw that coming! In the words of the late Uryu Ryunosuke, it was the greatest COOL! Although I think this might just be the tip of the iceberg in terms of what the greatest cool of this series might be.
